Choosing the Right Colors for Your Web Design Project

Choosing the Right Colors for Your Web Design Project
June 10, 2019Andy HunterWeb Design

1. Warm colors

Warm colors give an energetic effect on website visitors. To add more personality to your web pages, you can mix them with neutral and colors for balance. If you are not so good with mixing colors, feel free to coordinate with your developer and designer for quality custom web design services.

Orange – success, warm, enthusiastic, friendly, determination
Yellow – optimistic, youthful, lively, fresh, energetic
Red – active, love, emotional, intensity, passionate, strength
Pink – sweet, soft, romantic, playful, compassionate, warm

2. Cool colors

Cool colors can have a calming effect on the audience. This is the reason why these are the most commonly used colors on websites. You need to be careful though, if overused, they can have an impersonal, cold feel.

Purple – glamour, spiritual, power, ambition, nostalgic, luxury
Green – fresh, healing, calm, hopeful, relaxed, trust, peaceful
Blue – clarity, comfort, calm, reliability, trust, integrity, loyalty

3. Neutral colors

Neutral colors can be mixed effectively with cool or warm colors when utilized to tone down primary colors. This can also be used to provide the much-needed balance in website design.

Black – powerful, formal, bold, luxurious, serious, dramatic, elegant
Brown – home, friendships, earth, simplicity, outdoors, endurance, credibility
Gray – respect, modern, wisdom, intelligent, patience, longevity

Color Theory in Website Design
Use colors well in order to strengthen your online presence. If you are not yet familiar with color theory, now is the best time to read about it. It is the science behind color interactions on the color wheel, which work properly together in a design.

Website owners and designers can create more nuanced colors selections on the wheel by considering vibrancy, contrast and complementation.

• Vibrancy influence the website visitors’ emotional responses. Make them feel more energetic by using dark colors. On the other hand, if you want them to feel relaxed and focused, use darker shades.

• Complementation is the way people see color schemes interact with other colors. Matching colors from opposite ends of the color wheel means that your design can look more visually appealing to visitors.

• Contrast helps visitors focus by dividing web page elements, supporting website readability well.
